Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4482

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a man asked Makhul about this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Then indeed Allah is his Protector, and Jibril, and the righteous among the believers" [Surah al-Tahrim: 4], he said: Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that, as Allah Almighty said, Allah is his Protector, and Jibril as well; and by "the righteous among the believers" is meant Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "very weak".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Musa bin 'Umayr (al-Qurashi al-Kufi, the blind): Abu Hatim called him a liar and others abandoned him. Abu Qilabah al-Raqashi: he is 'Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (al-Tabarani, al-Kabir 10477, Ibn Shahin 155, Abu Nu'aym 103, al-Khatib 2/ 138, al-Wahidi 4/ 320), but its chain is also "very weak"; in it there is an accused narrator.
Note / Clarification: Other views have also come in the interpretation of this phrase (verse/sentence), which al-Hafiz summarised in "Fath al-Bari" 18/ 328.
