It is narrated from Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im that he heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) addressing the people; he said: "While I was drawing water from a well on the day of Badr, suddenly a strong wind came, the like of which I had never seen, then it went away. Then another strong wind came, the like of which I had never seen, except for the one that had come before it. The first wind was Jibril (peace be upon him), who descended with a thousand angels to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); the second wind was Mika'il (peace be upon him), who descended with a thousand angels on the right side of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Abu Bakr was on his right; and the third wind was Israfil (peace be upon him), who descended with a thousand angels on the left side of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while I was on the left side. Then, when Allah defeated His enemies, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted me on his horse. It galloped off with me and I fell back on my heels. Then I supplicated to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and He held me firm. When I sat upright on it, I struck at the enemy with spear-thrusts from this hand of mine until this part of me (he pointed to his armpit) was dyed with blood."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the printed edition these words are added after it: "Then it went away, then a severe wind came, the like of which I had never seen except the one before it." This is not in our handwritten manuscripts nor in the Talkhis of the Mustadrak, so apparently it is not in al-Hakim's narration. The evidence for this is that al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" 3/ 54-55 from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim and mentioned this phrase (harf) as a "supposition", saying: "I think he mentioned: then a severe wind came." It seems that when al-Bayhaqi saw the rest of the hadith and its detail of three winds, he mentioned it here as a supposition so that the beginning of the report would match its end. And what al-Bayhaqi supposed is established in the narration of others besides the author.
Grading: This report is "munkar and strange" (as al-Dhahabi said in al-Talkhis). Al-Dhahabi said: About Abu al-Huwayrith 'Abd al-Rahman, Malik said: He is not trustworthy; and there is something (of criticism) about Musa. Technical note / Defect ('illah): We say: Abu al-Huwayrith ('Abd Allah bin Mu'awiyah al-Zuraqi): some mentioned that his hadith is accepted for consideration (i'tibar), but he is alone in this report, so it will not be accepted. Abu Zur'ah al-Razi mentioned another defect in it (al-'Ilal of Ibn Abi Hatim: 1002): "Ibn 'Athmah said it like this, and he was mistaken in it. The correct version is what Ibn Abi Fudayk, Khalid bin Makhlad and Ibn Abi Maryam narrated: Musa bin Ya'qub > Abu al-Huwayrith > Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im > a man from the tribe of Awd > 'Ali." We say: al-Waqidi (al-Maghazi 1/ 57) also narrated it from Musa bin Ya'qub in the same way as the group of his students did, and they added to the chain an unnamed, unknown man between Muhammad bin Jubayr and 'Ali. Also, Musa bin 'Uqbah has some weakness (lin). Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" 3/ 5554 from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Abu Ya'la (489) recorded it from Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Abi Saminah, and Ibn Abi Hatim (al-'Ilal: 1002) via Muhammad bin al-Muthanna; both of them from Muhammad bin Khalid bin 'Athmah with this same chain.
