أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد بن سَلَمة العَنَزي، حدثنا عثمان بن سعيد الدارِمي، حدثنا عمرو بن عَوْن ووهب بن بَقِيَّة الواسطيان قالا: حدثنا خالد بن عبد الله، عن محمد بن عمرو، عن أبي سلمة، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "افتَرَقَت اليهودُ على إحدى أو اثنتين وسبعين فِرقةً، وافتَرقَت النصارى على إحدى أو اثنتين وسبعين فِرقةً، وتَفترِقُ أُمَّتي على ثلاث وسبعين فِرقةً" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه. وله شواهد، فمنها:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Jews split into seventy-one (71) or seventy-two (72) sects, the Christians also split into seventy-one (71) or seventy-two (72) sects, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three (73) sects."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they did not record it.

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسن.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this particular chain of it is "hasan".
وأخرجه أبو داود (4596) عن وهب بن بقية وحده، بهذا الإسناد. وقد سلف برقم (10).
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it at (4596) from Wahb bin Baqiyyah alone, with this same chain.
Important point: This narration has already appeared at number (10).
