It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the real cause of the death of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His body kept wasting away (out of grief) until he passed away.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the handwritten manuscripts this name has been corrupted into "Muhammad".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name has been corrupted into "Yunus bin al-Fadl", whereas he is "Mubashshir bin al-Fudayl", and he is the shaykh from whom Sayf bin 'Umar narrated extensively
Note / Clarification: (i.e. Sayf bin 'Umar) in his works.

Grading: Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Sayf bin 'Umar and because his shaykh Mubashshir bin al-Fudayl is unknown.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ubayd Allah bin Sa'd: he is Ibn Ibrahim bin Sa'd al-Zuhri, and his paternal uncle: he is Ya'qub.
Reference / Source: Abu Bakr bin al-Sunni recorded it in "al-Tibb" (as cited in Jami' al-Athar: 7/ 10), and from him Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (229), via Ahmad bin Yahya bin Zuhayr al-Tustari > 'Ubayd Allah bin Sa'd with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir recorded it in "Tarikh Dimashq" 30/ 408 via Shu'ayb bin Ibrahim > Sayf bin 'Umar with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: His words "yahri" (with an unpointed ha'): it means "to decrease". It is said: hara al-shay'u yahri, when something decreases (becomes deficient).
