Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4449

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked good dreams. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Has any of you seen a dream today?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I saw as if three moons had fallen into my chamber. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "If your dream is true, three persons will be buried in your house who are the most excellent - or the best - of all the people on the earth." Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away and was buried in her chamber, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: "This is one of your moons, and he is the best of them all." After that, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also passed away, and both of them too were buried in her chamber.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of 'Umar bin Sa'id al-Abahh. Al-Dhahabi said in his Talkhis: "He is one of the weak narrators, and Musa bin 'Abd Allah al-Sulami is alone in narrating this hadith from him; I do not know who he is." We say: al-Dhahabi did know him in "Tarikh al-Islam" 5/ 945, where he mentioned him and mentioned a group who narrated from him, so the real issue that remains is the weakness of 'Umar al-Abahh. Ibn Hibban (al-Majruhin 2/ 87) said: He narrated from Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah > Qatadah > Anas a notebook (nuskhah) in which he was not corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Junayd bin Hakim al-Daqqaq is also not strong. And al-'Abbas bin al-Fadl al-Asfati contradicted him (in al-Tabarani, al-Kabir 23/ 128), narrating it via: Musa bin 'Abd Allah > 'Umar al-Abahh > Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah > Qatadah > al-Hasan > Abu Bakr.
Note / Clarification: Caution: in some biographical books (such as "al-Ikmal" of Ibn Nuqtah al-Baghdadi) the attribution of Musa bin 'Abd Allah appears as "al-Sil'i" (with an unpointed 'ayn instead of mim), and it is vocalised with a kasrah under the sin. So it is possible that "al-Sulami" is a corruption of "al-Sil'i". And Allah knows best.
