Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4435

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the last words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were: 'Jalalu rabbi al-rafi', faqad ballaghtu' (Majesty belongs to my Lord, the Most High; I have conveyed (the message)). Then his (peace and blessings be upon him) soul was taken.
This hadith has an authentic chain, but the narrator al-Farisi in this chain made an error in narrating it from Muhammad bin Abd al-A'la.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "weak" because al-Husayn bin Ali bin Abd al-Samad is unknown (majhul) (al-Bayhaqi, in two narrations in "al-Dala'il", wrote his name as "al-Hasan"). No one narrated from him except Ahmad bin Kamil al-Qadi and Abd al-Baqi bin Qani', and no criticism or praise of him is reported.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It appears that he erred, because Sulayman al-Taymi (the father of al-Mu'tamir) narrated from Anas in the next narration something contrary to this narration, as the author (al-Hakim) pointed out. Also, Muhammad bin Abd al-A'la narrates the book "Sirat Rasul Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)" (as in the "Fahrasah" of Ibn Khayr al-Ishbili: 419) from al-Mu'tamir bin Sulayman, from his father Sulayman bin Tarkhan al-Taymi (the author of the book). This book is well known among the scholars of maghazi and sirah; had this been authentic in Sulayman al-Taymi's book, several narrators would have transmitted it from Muhammad bin Abd al-A'la. And Allah Most High knows best.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name was corrupted into "al-Anbari".
