Mustadrak al-Hakim 4434 — Mention of his illness and death ﷺ

حدَّثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدَّثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحَكَم، حدَّثنا أبي وشعيب بن الليث بن سعد عن الليث، عن يزيد بن الهادِ، عن موسى بن سَرْجِسَ، عن القاسم، عن عائشة، قالت: رأيتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ يموتُ وعندَه قَدَحٌ فيه ماءٌ، يُدخِلُ يدَه في القَدَح ثم يمسحُ وجهَه بالماءِ، ثم يقول: "اللهمَّ أعِنِّي على سَكْرة المَوتِ" (1). صحيحُ الإسناد ولم يُخرجاه.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time of his passing, and he had a bowl with water in it. He would put his hand into the bowl, then wipe his blessed face with it, and say: 'Allahumma a'inni 'ala sakrat al-mawt' (O Allah, help me through the agonies of death).
This hadith has an authentic chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده ضعيف لجهالة موسى بن سَرْجِس وقد تقدَّم برقم (3773) من طريق قتيبة: ابن سعيد عن الليث.
Grading: Its chain is "weak" because Musa bin Sarjis is unknown (majhul). This narration has passed (at number 3773) by way of Qutaybah bin Sa'id, from al-Layth.
