حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق الفقيه، أخبرنا العباس بن الفضل الأَسْفاطي، حدثنا أبو الوليد، حدثنا همَّام، عن زيد بن أسلم، عن عطاء بن يَسَار، عن أبي سعيد الخُدْري، أنَّ النبي ﷺ قال: "لا تَكتُبوا عني شيئًا سِوَى القرآن، ومَن كَتَبَ عني شيئًا سوى القرآن فليَمْحُه" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وقد تقدّم (3) أخبار عبد الله بن عمرو في إجازة الكتابة.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not write anything from me except the Qur'an, and whoever has written anything from me other than the Qur'an, let him erase it."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it. Mention of permission to write has already passed in the hadiths of Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both).

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل عباس الأسفاطي. أبو الوليد: هو هشام بن عبد الملك الطيالسي، وهمام: هو ابن يحيى العَوْدي.
Grading: This hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because of 'Abbas al-Asfati, this chain is "qawi" (strong). "Abu al-Walid" in the chain is Hisham bin 'Abd al-Malik al-Tayalisi, and "Hammam" is Hammam bin Yahya al-'Awdi (a trustworthy Basran narrator).
وأخرجه أحمد 17/ (11085) و (11087) و (11158) و (11344) و 18/ (11536)، ومسلم (3004)، والنسائي (7954)، وابن حبان (64) من طرق عن همام بن يحيى، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه ﵀.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (17/ 11085, 11087, 11158, 11344 and 18/ 11536), as did Imam Muslim (3004), Imam al-Nasa'i (7954) and Ibn Hibban (64), through various routes from Hammam bin Yahya with this same chain.
Important point: Imam al-Hakim's (may Allah have mercy on him) including this hadith in his book as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, because it is already in Sahih Muslim.
وأخرج الترمذي (2665) عن سفيان بن وكيع عن سفيان بن عيينة، عن زيد بن أسلم، عن عطاء، عن أبي سعيد قال: استأذنا النبيَّ ﷺ في الكتابة فلم يأذن لنا. وسفيان بن وكيع فيه ضعف.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tirmidhi (2665) narrated through the route of Sufyan bin Waki', from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, from Zayd bin Aslam, from 'Ata', from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "We asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to write (hadith), but he did not give us permission".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator in the chain Sufyan bin Waki' has some weakness.
وأخرج أبو داود (3648) من طريق خالد الحذاء، عن أبي المتوكل الناجي، عن أبي سعيد قال: ما كنا نكتب غيرَ التشهد والقرآن وإسناده صحيح.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud (3648) narrated through the route of Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu al-Mutawakkil al-Naji, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "We did not write anything except the tashahhud and the Qur'an".
Grading: The chain of this narration is sahih.
