It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the conquest of Makkah a man spoke with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and (out of awe of him (peace and blessings be upon him)) he began to tremble. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (with great kindness): "Take it easy, for I am only the son of a woman of Quraysh who used to eat dried meat (qadid)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement over whether this chain is connected (to the Companion) or mursal, the details of which we explained earlier at number (3775). Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Sa'id is corroborated in it.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (3312) narrated it by way of Isma'il bin Abi al-Harith, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi narrated it in "Tarikh Baghdad" (7/ 264) by way of Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Ulayyah, from Ja'far bin Awn.
Important point: Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Ulayyah is a thiqah narrator.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Adi (6/ 286) narrated it by way of Muhammad bin al-Walid bin Aban al-Qalanisi, from Ja'far bin Awn, but this Muhammad bin al-Walid is "accused of fabricating hadith" and of stealing hadith, as Ibn Adi stated explicitly.
Note / Clarification: Ibn Adi says that Ibn Aban stole this hadith from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, and Ubayd bin al-Haytham al-Halabi also stole it from him.
