It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the day of the battle of Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the Ansar and said: "O company of the Ansar!" They replied: "Labbayk (here we are at your service), may our fathers and mothers be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Turn your faces towards Allah and His Messenger, and He will admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow." So they turned with fervour, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) was surrounded by a throng whose shoulders were rubbing against one another (because of the crowding), and they fought steadfastly until Allah defeated the polytheists.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; and the narration of Mubarak bin Fadalah is a supporting witness (shahid) for it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, except for these words: "Turn your faces to Allah and His Messenger, and He will admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow". Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because of the weakness of Abd Allah bin Amir al-Aslami; however, it is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) through another route with a "hasan" chain without those particular words, and it also has supporting reports. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (5/ 129) and Ibn al-Athir in "Usd al-Ghabah" (4/ 266) by way of Yunus bin Bukayr, who narrates from Muhammad bin Ishaq, he from Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah, and he from Abd al-Rahman bin Jabir, from his father Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Details of the narration: In Ibn al-Athir's narration, Ibn Ishaq added Amr bin Shu'ayb, al-Zuhri, Abd Allah bin Abi Bakr bin Amr bin Hazm and Abd Allah bin al-Mukarram bin Abd al-Rahman al-Thaqafi, who narrated the account of Hunayn. Grading: The chain of the hadith of Jabir bin Abd Allah is hasan, while all the other narrations of Ibn Ishaq are mursal. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that comes after it. (5505). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Also, the hadith of al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, which will come later at number (5505), is a supporting report.
