It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Amr bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to some of the fortresses of Khaybar. He fought and strove hard, but victory was not granted at that time.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Textual investigation: (2) In the original manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak" this name has been corrupted into "Buraydah".
Technical note / Textual investigation: (3) The words "'an abihi" (from his father) have dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B).
(4387). Grading: (4) Its chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is "Buraydah bin Sufyan", who is very weak, and likewise his father (is weak); al-Bukhari said about him: "They criticise him." Important point: However, this report is authentically established as a hadith of Buraydah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), as will come shortly at no. (4387).
