It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "On the day of the Battle of Badr the Muhajirun numbered somewhat more than eighty (80), while the Ansar numbered somewhat more than two hundred and forty (240)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih, but 'Abd al-Malik bin Ibrahim al-Juddi made an error in it when he said "nayyifan wa thamanin" (some eighty-odd).
Note / Correction: As al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Fath" (12/ 30): "It is an error, because the students of Shu'bah unanimously agree on what is in al-Bukhari." That is, with the wording: "On the day of Badr the Muhajirun were some sixty-odd (nayyifan 'ala sittin)."
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3956) narrated it by way of Wahb bin Jarir bin Hazim, from Shu'bah, with the wording mentioned (sixty-odd).
Corroborating chains: Wahb was corroborated by a group, among them 'Affan bin Muslim, Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi and Muhammad bin Ja'far (see: Ibn Sa'd 2/ 18; Muhammad bin Nasr al-Marwazi, al-Sunnah 144; and others).
Details of the narration: Others besides Shu'bah narrated it with different wording: thus Ahmad (30/ 18555) and al-Bukhari (3958) narrated it by way of Isra'il; Ahmad (18555), al-Bukhari (3959), Ibn Majah (2828) and Ibn Hibban (4796) by way of Sufyan al-Thawri; Ahmad (18555) by way of al-Jarrah bin Malih; al-Bukhari (3957) by way of Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah; and al-Tirmidhi (1598) by way of Abu Bakr bin 'Ayyash. All five of them narrate it from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara', who said: "We used to say that the number of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Badr was the same as the number of the companions of Talut who crossed the river with him on the day of Jalut: three hundred and ten-odd." All of them said this, except Abu Bakr bin 'Ayyash, who said in his narration: "three hundred and thirteen (313)".
