It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Seek Laylat al-Qadr on the nineteenth (night of Ramadan), the morning of which was the day of the Battle of Badr, namely 'the Day of Criterion (between truth and falsehood), the day when the two armies met.' [Surah al-Anfal: 41]"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its narrators are "thiqah" (trustworthy), but there is a disagreement over its chain and wording in the narration from Abu Ishaq ('Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i).
Reference / Source: Thus Ibn al-Mundhir narrated it in his "al-Tafsir" (877) by way of Ahmad bin 'Abd Allah bin Yunus, from Abu 'Awanah, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Sa'id bin Mansur narrated it in the Tafsir section of his "Sunan" (996), and by way of him al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (9074), from Abu 'Awanah.
Details of the narration: Their wording is: "the seventeenth (17)".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tarikh" (2/ 419) by way of Shu'bah; and Ibn Abi Shaybah (2/ 514) by way of Yunus bin Abi Ishaq al-Sabi'i. Both of them narrate it from Abu Ishaq, from Hujayr al-Taghlibi, from al-Aswad, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Details of the narration: Their wording is: "the seventeenth (17)".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): They added "Hujayr al-Taghlibi" to the chain; he is a narrator from whom only Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i narrated, and no one other than al-'Ijli declared him trustworthy, so he is counted among the "majhul" (unknown) narrators.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tarikh" (2/ 418) by way of 'Ubayd Allah bin Musa; and al-Tahawi in "Sharh Ma'ani al-Athar" (3/ 92) by way of Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn. Both of them narrate it from Isra'il, from his grandfather Abu Ishaq, from Hujayr al-Taghlibi, from al-Aswad, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Details of the narration: Their wording is: "the nineteenth (19)".
Technical note / Disagreement: Waki' went against them (see: Ibn Abi Shaybah 2/ 514), narrating it from Isra'il with the wording "the seventeenth (17)".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tarikh" (2/ 418) from Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi, from Harun bin al-Mughirah, from 'Anbasah bin Sa'id al-Razi, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Aswad, from his father, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Details of the narration: Its wording is: "the nineteenth (19)".
Grading: Note that Ibn Humayd is "very weak" (da'if jiddan).
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1384) and others narrated it from Hakim bin Sayf, from 'Ubayd Allah bin 'Amr al-Raqqi, from Zayd bin Abi Unaysah, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Aswad, from his father, from Ibn Mas'ud as "marfu'".
Details of the narration: Its wording is: "Seek it on the night of the seventeenth of Ramadan, the night of the twenty-first and the night of the twenty-third," then he fell silent.
Grading: Hakim is not a solid (matin) narrator, and he alone narrated it as "marfu'" through the route of al-Aswad from Ibn Mas'ud, so his narration is shadh.
Important point / Preference: We say: what is more likely (ashbah) from Ibn Mas'ud as "mawquf" is the statement of those who said "the seventeenth", because their narration agrees with the narration of Sufyan al-Thawri from al-A'mash from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i from al-Aswad (mentioned at the previous route), and it also agrees with the view of the majority of the scholars of the maghazi that Badr took place on 17 Ramadan. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A "marfu'" hadith has also been narrated from Ibn Mas'ud about seeking Laylat al-Qadr, which al-Bazzar (1739), Abu Bakr al-Qati'i in "Juz' al-Alf Dinar" (306) and others narrated by way of Abu Wa'il, from Ibn Mas'ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I had been informed of it, then it slipped away from me, so seek it when nine (nights) remain, or seven remain, or three remain." Al-Qati'i added: "or five remain."
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
