Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4286

أخبرنا أبو عمرو عثمان أحمد بن عبد الله الدَّقَّاق ببغداد، حدثنا عبد الملك بن محمد الرَّقَاشي، حدثنا يعقوب بن إسحاق الحَضْرمي، أخبرنا عِكْرمة بن عمار، حدثنا أبو كثير الغُبَري، قال: قال أبو هُريرة: ما على وَجْه الأرض مؤمنٌ ولا مؤمنةٌ إلا وهو يُحبُّني، قال: قلتُ: وما عِلمُك بذلك يا أبا هريرة؟ قال: إني كنتُ أدعُو أمي إلى الإسلام، فتأبّى، وإني دعوتُها ذات يومٍ فأسمعَتْني في رسول الله ﷺ ما أكْرَهُ، فجئتُ إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقلتُ: يا رسول الله، إني كنتُ أدعُو أمّي إلى الإسلام، فتأبَى عليَّ، وإني دعوتُها يومًا، فأسمَعَتْني فيكَ ما أَكرَهُ، فَادْعُ الله يا رسول الله أن يهديَ أمَّ أبي هريرة إلى الإسلام، فدعا لها رسول الله ﷺ، فرجعتُ إلى أمّي أُبشِّرها بدعوةِ رسول الله ﷺ، فلما كنتُ على الباب إذا البابُ مغلقٌ فدققتُ البابَ، فسمعتْ حِسِّي فَلَبِسَتْ ثيابَها وجَعَلتْ على رأسِها خِمارَها، وقالت: ارفُقْ يا أبا هريرة، ففتحتْ لي، فلما دخلتُ قالت: أشهدُ أن لا إلهَ إلّا اللهُ وأنَّ محمدًا رسولُ الله، فرجعتُ إلى رسولِ الله ﷺ، وأنا أبكي من الفَرَح كما كنتُ أبكي من الحُزن، وجعلتُ أقول: أبشِرْ يا رسولَ الله، قد استجابَ اللهُ دعوتَك وهَدَى الله أمَّ أبي هريرة إلى الإسلام، فقلت: ادعُ الله أن يُحبِّبَني وأمي إلى عباده المؤمنين ويُحبِّبَهم إلينا، قال: فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "اللهم حَبَّب عُبيدَكَ هذا وأمه إلى عبادك المؤمنين، وحَبَّبهم إليهما"، فما على الأرضِ مؤمنٌ ولا مؤمنةٌ إلا وهو يُحبُّني وأُحِبُّه (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: There is no believing man or woman on the face of the earth who does not love me. He was asked: O Abu Hurayrah! How do you know this? He said: I used to invite my mother to Islam but she would refuse. One day I invited her and she said something offensive about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that I found deeply hurtful. I came weeping to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I used to call my mother to Islam but she would refuse; today I invited her and she said something about you that I dislike. So, O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah that He guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah to Islam. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for her. I went back to my mother carrying the glad tidings of the supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I reached the door, it was closed. My mother sensed the sound of my coming, so she put on her clothes, covered her head with her scarf and said: O Abu Hurayrah! Stay where you are. Then she opened the door for me, and when I entered she called out: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." I went back again to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), weeping from joy just as I had wept before from grief, and I said: O Messenger of Allah! Rejoice, Allah has answered your supplication and has guided the mother of Abu Hurayrah. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah that He make me and my mother beloved to His believing servants, and make the believers beloved to us. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication: 'Allahumma habbib 'ubaydaka hadha wa ummahu ila 'ibadika al-mu'minin, wa habbibhum ilayhima' (O Allah! Make this little servant of Yours and his mother beloved to Your believing servants, and make the believers beloved to them both). So now there is no believing man or woman on earth who does not love me and whom I do not love.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: (2) This hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is strong (qawi) because of Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqashi, and he has been corroborated (mutaba'ah).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/8259), Muslim (2491) and Ibn Hibban (7154) narrated it through routes from Ikrimah bin Ammar.
Note / Clarification: The author's (al-Hakim's) inclusion of it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
