حدثنا أبو بكر أحمد بن كامل القاضي، حدثنا عبد الملك بن محمد الرَّقَاشي، حدثنا وهب بن جَرير، حدثنا شُعْبة، عن عمرو بن مُرّة، عن عبد الله بن سَلِمة، عن علي، قال: مَرِضتُ فأتى عليَّ النبيُّ ﷺ وأنا أقولُ: اللهم إن كان أجَلِي قد حَضَرَ فأرِحْني، وإن كان مُتأخِّرًا فارفَعْني، وإن كان البلاءُ فصَبِّرني، فقال: "ما قلتَ؟ " فأعَدْتُ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "اللهم اشفِهِ اللهم عافِهِ" ثم قال: "قُمْ"، فقمتُ، فما عادَ لي ذلك الوجَعُ بعدُ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was saying (in supplication): 'Allahumma in kana ajali qad hadara fa-arihni, wa in kana muta'akhkhiran farfa'ni, wa in kana al-bala'u fa-sabbirni' (O Allah! If the time of my death has come, then grant me rest; if it is still delayed, then grant me cure (from the illness); and if this is a trial, then grant me patience). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What did you say?" I repeated the same words, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated (for me): 'Allahumma ishfihi, Allahumma 'afihi' (O Allah, cure him; O Allah, grant him well-being). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up." So I stood up, and that pain never returned to me after that.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن إن شاء الله من أجل عبد الله بن سَلِمة - وهو المُرادي - وصحَّحه الترمذي وابن حبان وابن حجر في "نتائج الأفكار" 4/ 191.
Grading: (1) This chain is hasan, in sha' Allah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is hasan because of Abd Allah bin Salimah (who is al-Muradi). Al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban and Ibn Hajar in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" (4/191) graded it sahih.
وأخرجه أحمد 2/ (637) و (638) و (841) و (1057)، والترمذي (3564)، والنسائي (10830)، وابن حبان (6940) من طرق عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حسن صحيح.
