Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4255

حدّثَناه أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا سليمان بن محمد بن الفضل، حدثنا محمد بن هاشم البَعْلَبكِّي، حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم، عن الأوزاعي، عن يحيى بن أبي كثير، عن أبي سلَمة، عن أبي هريرة، قال: قيل للنبي ﷺ: متى وَجَبَتْ لك النبوّةُ؟ قال: "بين خَلْقِ آدمَ ونَفْخِ الرُّوح فيه" (2).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: When was prophethood established for you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the interval between the creation of Adam (peace be upon him) and the breathing of the soul into him."

(2) إسناده صحيح. وقد صرَّح الوليد بن مسلم بسماعه وسماع الأوزاعي عند جعفر الفريابي في "القدر" (14) وعند غيره، فانتفت شبهة تدليسه.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Walid bin Muslim explicitly stated his own "hearing" and al-Awza'i's "hearing" in Ja'far al-Firyabi's book "al-Qadar" (14) and elsewhere, which removes the suspicion of his "tadlis".
وأخرجه الترمذي (3609) عن الوليد بن شجاع، عن الوليد بن مسلم، بهذا الإسناد. واختلفت نسخ الترمذي في ذكر حكمه، ففي بعضها: حسن صحيح غريب، وفي بعضها الآخر: حسن غريب.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi recorded it at (3609) via al-Walid bin Shuja', from al-Walid bin Muslim with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: The manuscripts of al-Tirmidhi differ about the verdict given on this hadith; some manuscripts have "hasan sahih gharib", while others have only "hasan gharib".
