Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is weak because of "idtirab" (inconsistency) in its chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement about whether it is connected (mawsul) or mursal. Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj (who is 'Abdullah bin Sa'id al-Kindi) narrated it from Abu Mu'awiyah "mawsulan" (with a connected chain), as in the author's narration here, and al-Ashajj is alone in this, while other narrators narrate it from Abu Mu'awiyah "mursalan", without mentioning 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in it. Likewise a group narrated it from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, "mursalan".
Important point: This "mursal" narration is the "preserved" (mahfuz, correct) one, as al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (3495), and Ibn Kathir mentioned in "al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah" 4/ 23 that this (being mursal) is closer to the truth.
Details of the narration: 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad narrated it from Hisham bin 'Urwah "mursalan", without even mentioning Hisham's father ('Urwah).
Note / Clarification: Despite this (clear weakness), al-Busiri declared its chain sahih in "Ithaf al-Khiyarah" (68/ 2) (which is surprising)!
Reference / Source: This narration is in "Juz' Abi Sa'id al-Ashajj" (120). Via his route it was recorded by al-Bazzar in his "Musnad" (as in al-Haythami's "Kashf al-Astar" 2750), al-Daraqutni in "al-'Ilal" (3495), and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 63/ 23-24.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir recorded it in "Tarikh Dimashq" 63/ 24 via Ahmad bin Abi al-Hawari, from Abu Mu'awiyah, from Hisham, from his father, "mursalan".
Reference / Source: Yunus bin Bukayr recorded it in his additions (ziyadat) to "Sirat Ibn Ishaq" (158), and al-Bazzar (as in "Kashf al-Astar" 2751) via Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah. Both of them (Yunus and Hammad) narrate it from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, "mursalan".
Reference / Source: Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar recorded it in "Jamharat Nasab Quraysh" (p. 414-415) via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, from Hisham bin 'Urwah "mursalan", mentioning neither 'Urwah nor 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). For further detail see number (8387).
