Grading: Its chain is weak and mudtarib (inconsistent).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The name "Muhammad bin 'Ikrimah" in its chain here, if it is not a corruption in the manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak," is a mistake by Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ayyub al-Baghdadi, who was a copyist (warraq) who narrated the Maghazi of Ibn Ishaq from Ibrahim bin Sa'd, and was not one of the hadith scholars known for seeking it. Ya'qub bin Ibrahim bin Sa'd and his brother Sa'd bin Ibrahim narrated this report from their father, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Abi Muhammad, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas; al-Wahidi recorded it via them in "Asbab al-Nuzul" (35). The Muhammad mentioned is Ibn Abi Muhammad, the freed slave of Zayd bin Thabit, and he is majhul (unknown).
Important point: The correct version is that it is from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad (bin Abi Muhammad), from 'Ikrimah or from Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas.
Reference / Source: This is how it was narrated by Ibn Ishaq's students who transmitted the Maghazi from him: Ziyad bin 'Abdullah al-Bakka'i (Ibn Hisham's "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" 1/538 and al-Bukhari's "Khalq Af'al al-'Ibad" (415)), Yunus bin Bukayr (al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 1/382 and Abu Zakariyya Yahya bin Mandah's "Amali" in the transmission of Ibn Hayyuwayh (19)) and Salamah bin al-Fadl al-Abrash (al-Tabari 1/382 and Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-Tafsir" 1/155), all three from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Abi Muhammad, from Sa'id bin Jubayr or 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" 1/10 and in "Tahdhib al-Athar" (Musnad 'Umar bin al-Khattab 2/832), and by Ibn Abi Hatim in his "Tafsir" 9/309 and 3080, via two routes from Yahya bin Ya'qub al-Qass, from Hammad bin Abi Sulayman, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "This world is one of the weeks of the Hereafter: seven thousand years."
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad in "al-Zuhd" (2170), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Zuhd" (377) and "Dhamm al-Dunya" (251), and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 4/279 via Damrah bin Rabi'ah, from Hisham bin Hassan, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, who said: "This world is one of the weeks of the Hereafter."
Reference / Source: It was recorded, like the author's (al-Hakim) narration, by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (11160) via Salamah bin al-Fadl, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Sayf bin Sulayman, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It too contains the 'an'anah of Ibn Ishaq.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Adam bin Abi Iyas in his "Tafsir" 1/83 and al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 1/383 via Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, who said: "The Jews said…" and he mentioned it.
Grading: Its chain up to Mujahid is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has also been narrated as marfu' from the hadith of Ibn Zimil al-Juhani (al-Tabarani (8146) and others), but its chain contains Sulayman bin 'Ata' al-Harrani, who is "munkar al-hadith."
Grading: Likewise it was narrated as marfu' from Abu Hurayrah by al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi in "Nawadir al-Usul" (620), but it is "mawdu'" (fabricated).
Important point: Concerning the age of the world, the opposite of what is narrated here (namely that its age is six thousand years) is narrated from Ka'b al-Ahbar and Wahb bin Munabbih with good ("jiyad") chains from both of them, in Ibn Abi Khaythamah's "Tarikh" (as in Ibn Nasir al-Din's "Jami' al-Athar" 4/68), al-Tabari's "Tarikh" 1/10 and others.
General principle: Abu Bakr al-Jassas in "Ahkam al-Qur'an" 4/212 and Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm in "al-Fisal fi al-Milal wa-l-Ahwa' wa-l-Nihal" 2/84 refuted the claim of those who profess to know the age of the world, citing the verses which make clear that knowledge of the Hour is with Allah alone, that none but He will reveal it at its time, and that it will come suddenly.
