حدثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل البَجَلي، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبانَ الأزدي، حدثني يحيى بن زكريا بن أبي زائدة، عن أبيه، عن أبي إسحاق، عن عمرو بن عبد الله الوادِعي، قال: سمعت معاويةَ يقول: مَلَكَ الأرضَ أربعةٌ: سليمانُ بنُ داود، وذو القَرْنَين، ورجل من أهل حُلْوان، ورجلٌ آخرُ، فقيل له: الخَضِر؟ فقال: لا (1). ذكر زكريا بن أدن النبيّ ﵇

It is narrated from Amr bin Abdullah al-Wadi'i; he said that he heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "Four people have ruled the earth: Sulayman bin Dawud (peace be upon them both), Dhu al-Qarnayn, a man from the people of Hulwan, and another man." It was said to him: "Is he al-Khadir (peace be upon him)?" He said: "No." (After this) the account of the Prophet of Allah Zakariyya bin Adan (peace be upon him) begins.

(1) إسناده حسن إن شاء الله من أجل عمرو بن عبد الله الوادعي، فهو تابعي كبير روى عن علي وابن مسعود ومعاوية وغيرهم، وقيل: هو أبو حَيّة الوادعي، فإن يكن هو فهو ثقة.
Grading: Its chain is hasan, if Allah wills.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is on account of 'Amr bin 'Abdullah al-Wadi'i, a senior Tabi'i who narrated from 'Ali, Ibn Mas'ud, Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with them) and others. Some said he is "Abu Hayyah al-Wadi'i"; if he is that man, then he is thiqah.
وأخرجه ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 17/ 336 من طريق عثمان بن أبي شَيْبة، عن إسماعيل بن أبان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 17/336 via 'Uthman bin Abi Shaybah, from Isma'il bin Aban, with this chain.
