Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this man's name was written inverted as "Ahmad bin Muhammad"; we have corrected it as it appears in al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9336), where he narrated this report from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, and he (the correct name) is Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Harun al-'Udi.

Grading: Its narrators are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim),
Important point: but this is from the "Isra'iliyyat" (reports of the People of the Book). (Narrator): Abu Hilal is Muhammad bin Sulaym al-Rasibi.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9336) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this chain.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abd al-Razzaq in his "Tafsir" 2/ 167 from Ma'mar, and by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 23/ 166 via Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah, both of them from Qatadah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, both of them gave (the period as) "seven years and some months".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Something similar is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 17/ 99 and "Tarikh" 1/ 324, and from Wahb bin Munabbih in Ahmad's "al-Zuhd" (229).
Details of the narration: See the saying of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) which has already passed under no. (4159) with a weak chain to him.
Important point: More authentic in chain than it is the marfu' hadith of Anas bin Malik which has already passed under no. (4160), that "Ayyub (peace be upon him) remained in his affliction for eighteen (18) years."
