حدثنا علي بن حَمْشاذ، حدثنا محمد بن شاذان الجَوْهَري، حدثنا سعيد بن سليمان، حدثنا عَبَّاد بن العَوّام، عن سفيان بن حُسين، عن الحَكَم، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عبّاس، عن عليٍّ في قوله ﷿: ﴿يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ آذَوْا مُوسَى فَبَرَّأَهُ اللَّهُ مِمَّا قَالُوا﴾ [الأحزاب: 61]، قال: صَعِد موسى وهارون الجبلَ، فمات هارونُ، فقالت بنو إسرائيل لموسى: أنت قَتلْتَه، كان أشدَّ حُبًّا لنا منك وألْيَنَ لنا منك، فآذَوه في ذلك، فأمر الله الملائكةَ فحمَلَتْه فَمَرُّوا به على مَجالس بني إسرائيل، حتى عَلِمُوا بموته، فدفنُوه، ولم يَعرِفْ قَبرُه إلَّا الرَّخَمُ، وإنَّ الله جعلَه أصَمَّ أبْكَمَ (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "O you who believe! Do not be like those who harmed Musa, and Allah cleared him of what they said" [Surah al-Ahzab: 69], that he said: Musa and Harun (peace be upon them both) climbed the mountain, and Harun (peace be upon him) died there. The Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): "You killed him; he loved us more than you do and was gentler towards us than you." So they harmed Musa (peace be upon him) over this. Then Allah Almighty commanded the angels, and they carried the body of Harun (peace be upon him) and passed with it by the gatherings of the Children of Israel, until they came to know of his natural death. Then the angels buried him, and no one knew the location of his grave except the vulture (bird), and indeed Allah Almighty made it deaf and dumb.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. An account of the death of Musa bin Imran (may the blessings of Allah be upon him).
