It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when his Lord spoke to Musa bin Imran (peace be upon him), he wished to see Him and said: "My Lord! Show me (Yourself) so that I may look at You. He said: You will never be able to see Me, but look at the mountain; if it remains firm in its place, then you will see Me." [Surah al-A'raf: 143] So angels surrounded the mountain, fire surrounded the angels, (more) angels surrounded the fire, and fire again surrounded those angels. Then your Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, and a manifestation the size of the little finger appeared, which crushed the mountain to pieces, and Musa (peace be upon him) fell down unconscious for as long as Allah willed. Then when he regained consciousness he said: "Glory be to You! I turn to You in repentance, and I am the first of the believers." [Surah al-A'raf: 143] (Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:) That is, the first to believe among the Children of Israel.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is hasan because of al-Suddi (whose name is Isma'il bin Abd al-Rahman) and Asbat bin Nasr. (Identification of the narrator): Amr bin Talhah al-Qannad is Amr bin Hammad bin Talhah, who is often attributed to his grandfather. Reference / Source: It was recorded in abridged form, mentioning the manifestation (tajalli), the swoon and then the recovery, by al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" 1/ 423 from Musa bin Harun, from Amr bin Hammad, with this chain. Reference / Source: It was also recorded in the same abridged form by Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Sunnah" (484) and al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 9/ 53 via Amr bin Muhammad al-'Anqazi, from Asbat, with it. Its beginning, from when Musa (peace be upon him) asked to see (Allah) up to the mention of the manifestation (tajalli), was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" 1/ 422-423 from Musa bin Harun, and by Ibn Battah al-'Ukbari in "al-Ibanah" 7/ 323-325 via Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Saghani. Details of the narration: Both of them narrate it from Amr bin Hammad bin Talhah, from Asbat bin Nasr, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik and from Abu Salih, from Ibn Abbas; and from Murrah al-Hamdani, from Ibn Mas'ud; and from some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Its chain is also hasan.
