Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Ubaydah (who is the son of Abd Allah bin Mas'ud) did not hear from his father. Also, Zuhayr (who is Ibn Mu'awiyah) is among those who heard from Abu Ishaq (al-Sabi'i) after his deterioration (ikhtilat). However, Zuhayr is corroborated on the mention of "the price for which Yusuf (peace be upon him) was sold" and "the number of those who went out with Musa (peace be upon him)", but not on the rest of the report.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim in his "Tafsir" 7/ 2196 via Abd Allah bin Muhammad al-Nufayli, and by al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (9068) via Mu'awiyah bin Amr, both of them from Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, with this chain.
Reference / Source: The part of this narration about "the price for which Yusuf (peace be upon him) was sold" was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 12/ 172 via Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman, from Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, with it.
Reference / Source: Limited to that part as well, al-Tabari also recorded it in 12/ 172 via Sharik al-Nakha'i, from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, with it.
Reference / Source: And the part of this narration about "the number of those who went out with Musa (peace be upon him)" was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 19/ 75 via Isra'il, from his grandfather Abu Ishaq, with it.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari also recorded it in 19/ 75 via Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu 'Ubaydah, and he did not take it beyond him (Abu 'Ubaydah).
Important point: As for what is said in the report, "their men were prophets and their women were truthful (siddiqat)", there is no evidence for it.
General principle: Ibn Kathir says in his "Tafsir" 4/ 300: "Know that no evidence has been established for the prophethood of the brothers of Yusuf (peace be upon him); rather, the apparent sense of the context indicates the opposite (we say: meaning the context of the verses of Surah Yusuf which mention their plotting to kill him or cast him out into some land, and then their agreeing to throw him into the well). Some people claim that they received revelation after that, but this is questionable, and whoever claims it needs evidence. They have mentioned nothing except the saying of Allah the Exalted: ﴿Say: "We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Ibrahim, Isma'il, Ishaq, Ya'qub and the Tribes (al-Asbat)"﴾, and this is open to another interpretation, because the clans of the Children of Israel are called "Asbat", just as the Arabs are called "qaba'il" (tribes) and the non-Arabs "shu'ub" (peoples). Allah the Exalted mentions that He sent revelation to the prophets from the Asbat (tribes) of the Children of Israel, so He mentioned them collectively because they were many; but every sibt (tribe) descended from one of the brothers of Yusuf, and no evidence has been established that these brothers themselves received revelation. And Allah knows best."
