حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن غالب، حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم، حدثنا شعبة، عن أبي إسحاق، عن أبي الأحوص، قال: جاء أسماء بن خارجة باب عبد الله بن مسعود، فقال: أنا ابن الأشياخ الكِرام، فقال عبد الله بن مسعود: ذاك يوسف بن يعقوب بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه.

It is narrated from Abu al-Ahwas (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: Asma' bin Kharijah came to the door of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I am the son of noble elders." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "That (honour belongs only to) Yusuf bin Ya'qub bin Ishaq bin Ibrahim (peace be upon them)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(3) إسناده صحيح. أبو إسحاق: هو عمرو بن عبد الله السبيعي، وأبو الأحوص: هو عوف بن مالك الأشجعي.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (Identifying the narrators): Abu Ishaq is 'Amr bin 'Abdullah al-Sabi'i, and Abu al-Ahwas is 'Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i.
