حدثنا إسماعيل بن علي الخُطَبي ببغداد، حدثنا إسماعيل بن إسحاق القاضي، حدثنا موسى بن إسماعيل وحجاج بن مِنْهال، قالا: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة، عن داود بن أبي هند، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس قال: هو إسحاق؛ يعني الذبيح (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "He is Ishaq (peace be upon him), meaning the one to be sacrificed (al-Dhabih, the one whom he was commanded to sacrifice)."

Status of the narrators: The narrators (all the narrators) of this chain are "thiqah" (trustworthy).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, the opposite of this has also been narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) through several routes (chains), as has been explained in detail earlier under no. (4078).
وأخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 23/ 81، وفي "تاريخه" 1/ 264، والثعلبي في "تفسيره" 8/ 150 من طرق عن داود بن أبي هند، به. وانظر ما بعده.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" 23/ 81 and in his "Tarikh" 1/ 264, and al-Tha'labi in his "Tafsir" 8/ 150, through several routes from Dawud bin Abi Hind, likewise.
