مَنْ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ
Whoever separates from the community by a handspan has removed the noose of Islam from his neck

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا بكَّار بن قُتيبة القاضي بمصر، حدثنا أبو داود سليمان بن داود الطَّيالسي، حدثنا علي بن المبارَك، عن يحيى بن أبي كَثير، عن زيد بن سَلَّام، عن جدِّه قال: حدثني الحارث الأشعَري قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "آمرُكم بخمس كَلِماتٍ أمرَني اللهُ بهنَّ: الجماعةِ، والسمعِ، والطاعةِ، والهجرةِ، والجهادِ في سبيل الله، فمن خَرَجَ من الجماعة قِيدَ شِبْر، فقد خَلَعَ رِبْقةَ الإسلام من رأسِه إلّا أن يَرجعَ" (1). وهكذا رواه بطوله معاويةُ بن سَلَّام وأبَانُ بن يزيد العطَّار عن يحيى بن أبي كثير. أما حديث معاوية:

It is narrated from al-Harith al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I command you with five things that Allah has commanded me with: (holding to) the Jama'ah, listening, obeying, Hijrah (emigration), and Jihad in the path of Allah. So whoever goes out from the Jama'ah even by the measure of a handspan has cast off the collar of Islam from his head, unless he returns."
