أخبرَناه أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الصَّفّار، حدثنا أبو إسماعيل محمد بن إسماعيل، حدثنا أبو صالح، حدثني الليث، حدثني يحيى بن سعيد قال: كَتَبَ إليَّ خالدُ بن أبي عِمران قال: حدثني نافع، عن عبد الله بن عمر، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "من خَرَجَ من الجماعةِ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ، فقد خَلَعَ رِبْقةَ الإسلام من عُنقِه حتى يُراجِعَه"، وقال: "من مات وليس عليه إمامُ جماعةٍ، فإِنَّ مَوْتتَه مَوتةٌ جاهليَّة" (2). الحديث الرابع فيما يدلُّ على أنَّ إجماع العلماء حُجَّة: [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] ترقيم العلميه 403 - سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever goes out from the Jama'ah even by the measure of a handspan has cast off the collar of Islam from his neck until he returns," and he said: "Whoever dies while there is no Imam of the Jama'ah over him, his death is a death of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance)."
This text is narrated with a sahih chain on the condition of the two Shaykhs.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and, if Allah wills, its chain is "hasan". Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator in the chain Abu Salih ('Abd Allah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth) is considered "hasan al-hadith" in corroborating chains and supporting reports, and this hadith is one of those; it has also already appeared with the author (al-Hakim) at number (261). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by both the previous and the following hadiths.
