مَنْ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ
Whoever separates from the community by a handspan has removed the noose of Islam from his neck

حدَّثَناه أبو سعيد أحمد بن يعقوب الثقفي، حدثنا جعفر بن سَوَّار، حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد، حدثنا جَرير، عن مُطرِّف، عن خالد بن وَهْبان، عن أبي ذرٍّ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "مَن خالَفَ جماعةَ المسلمين شِبرًا، فقد خَلَعَ رِبْقةَ الإسلام من عُنقِه" (1). خالد بن وَهْبان لم يُذكَر بجَرْح في رواياته، وهو تابعي معروف، إلّا أنَّ الشيخين لم يخرجاه. وقد رُوِي هذا المتنُ عن عبد الله بن عمر بإسناد صحيح على شرطهما:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever opposes the Jama'ah of the Muslims even by the measure of a handspan has removed the ring of Islam from his neck."
Khalid bin Wahban is a well-known Tabi'i against whom there is no criticism, but the two Shaykhs did not narrate from him.
