حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل، حدثنا سعيد بن سليمان الواسطي، حدثنا عباد بن العوام، عن سعيد، عن قتادة، عن الحسن، عن عُتَيّ السَّعدي، عن أبي بن كعب، قال: كان آدم رجلًا طوالًا، كثير شعر الرأس، كأنه نخلةٌ جَوفاء (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Adam (peace be upon him) was a man of tall stature, with thick hair on his head, as though he were a hollow palm tree."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) رجاله لا بأس بهم، لكن اختلف في رفعه ووقفه، كما أشار إليه البخاري في "التاريخ الكبير" 1/ 79. الحسن: هو ابن أبي الحسن البصري، وسعيد: هو ابن أبي عروبة.
Grading: Its narrators are unobjectionable, but there is disagreement over whether it is marfu' or mawquf, as al-Bukhari indicated in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (1/79). Al-Hasan is "Ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Basri", and Sa'id is "Ibn Abi 'Arubah".
وأخرجه ابن سعد في "طبقاته الكبرى" 1/ 15 عن سعيد بن سليمان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra" (1/15) from Sa'id bin Sulayman, with this same chain.
وقد تقدَّم برقم (3075) من طريق عبد الوهاب بن عطاء الخفاف عن سعيد بن أبي عروبة مرفوعًا.
Reference / Source: It has already appeared at number (3075) via 'Abd al-Wahhab bin 'Ata' al-Khaffaf, from Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah, as "marfu'".
وبرقم (1292) من طريق يزيد بن عبد الله بن الهاد، عن الحسن، عن أبي بن كعب مرفوعًا، وبإسقاط ذكر عُتي بن ضمرة، والصحيح ذكره كما في رواية قتادة ويونس بن عبيد وثابت عن الحسن. وانظر ما تقدم برقم (1291).
Reference / Source: And at number (1292) via Yazid bin 'Abdullah bin al-Had, from al-Hasan, from Ubayy bin Ka'b, as "marfu'", with the mention of 'Utayy bin Damrah dropped, whereas the "correct" version includes him, as in the narration of Qatadah, Yunus bin 'Ubayd and Thabit from al-Hasan. ويشهد لذكر طول آدم حديث أبي هريرة مرفوعًا: "خلق الله آدم وطوله ستون ذراعًا" أخرجه البخاري (3326) وغيره، وبنحوه عن أبي هريرة أيضًا عند البخاري (3327)، ومسلم (2834) في ذكر أول زمرة تدخل الجنة: "على صورة أبيهم ستون ذراعًا في السماء".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The mention of Adam's (peace be upon him) height is supported by the "marfu'" hadith of Abu Hurayrah: "Allah created Adam, and his height was sixty cubits." Al-Bukhari (3326) and others narrated it. Something similar is also from Abu Hurayrah in al-Bukhari (3327) and Muslim (2834), in the mention of the first group to enter Paradise: "In the form of their father, sixty cubits tall into the sky."
