Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In some manuscripts it reads "al-Hasan", which is a corruption. He was called "al-Khatan" because he was the son-in-law (khatan) of Abu Bakr bin Khuzaymah, that is, his daughter's husband. See his biography in al-Sam'ani's "al-Ansab" (3/314), under the entry (al-Janjarudhi), and in "Tarikh al-Islam" (7/792).
Note / Clarification: Our manuscripts have "turabuha … ta'ir"; the correct reading, as in the sources of takhrij, is "turabuhu" (that is, the river's soil) and "tayr", which is plural, while "ta'ir" is its singular.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan in corroborating chains and supporting reports on account of Abu Uways (Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Uways al-Asbahi), and he has been corroborated. 'Asim bin Ali is saduq, hasan al-hadith, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Zuhri is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Shihab al-Qurashi al-Zuhri.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (21/13480, 13484) recorded it via two routes from Abu Uways, with this chain, and he mentioned Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) instead of Abu Bakr at its end.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (13475, 13485) recorded it from Ibrahim bin Sa'd al-Zuhri, and al-Tirmidhi (2542) via Abdullah bin Maslamah, both from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Muslim, from his father, with the same chain. Abdullah bin Maslamah mentioned Umar in it instead of Abu Bakr, and al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan.
Reference / Source: Abd al-Wahhab bin Abi Bakr narrated it (in Ahmad 13306 and al-Nasa'i 11639) from Abdullah bin Muslim, from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, from Anas; thus he inverted it, and he too mentioned Umar in it.
Note / Clarification: "Al-juzur" is the plural of "jazur", which means a camel.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author (al-Hakim) attributed it to Muslim from the hadith of Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad from al-Mukhtar; this is an error (wahm) on his part. In fact Muslim recorded it in his "Sahih" (400) from the hadith of Ali bin Mushir and Muhammad bin Fudayl from Mukhtar bin Fulful. See the rest of its takhrij in "Musnad Ahmad" (19/11996). As for the hadith of Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad, Abu al-Qasim bin Bishran recorded it in his "Amali" (221) via Ishaq bin Rahawayh, from al-Mughirah bin Salamah, from him (Abd al-Wahid).
