It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited (this surah, by way of explanation) thus: "By time and the calamities of time, indeed man is in loss."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if because 'Amr Dhu Murr is alone in narrating it, and he is counted among the unknown narrators; no one other than Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i narrated from him. Al-Bukhari and Ibn 'Adi said: "He is not known." Ibn Hibban said in "al-Majruhin": "There are many munkar reports in his hadith." Only al-'Ijli declared him trustworthy. Reference / Source: Abu Ubayd recorded it in "Fada'il al-Qur'an" (p. 318) and al-Tabari (30/290) via two routes from Isra'il, with this chain, and they added at its end: "And it is in it until the end of time." Reference / Source: Al-Tabari (30/290) and al-Dinawari in "al-Mujalasah" (2546) also recorded it via Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, with the same chain. 12/ 8425. Note / Clarification: Nizam al-Din al-Qummi al-Naysaburi said in his tafsir "Ghara'ib al-Qur'an" (6/558): "If it is authentic, the scholars have taken it as tafsir, not as being part of the Qur'an; for this reason it is not permissible to recite it in prayer." Something similar was said before him by Makki bin Abi Talib in his book "al-Hidayah ila Bulugh al-Nihayah" (12/8425).
