حدَّثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدَّثنا محمد بن سِنَان القزَّاز، حدَّثنا محمد بن بكر البُرْساني، حدَّثنا جعفر بن بُرْقان قال: سمعت يزيدَ بن الأصمِّ يحدِّث عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "ما أخشى عليكم الفقرَ، ولكنِّي أخشى عليكم التكاثُرَ، وما أخشى عليكم الخطأ، ولكنِّي أخشى عليكم التعمُّدَ" (1) هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not fear poverty (want) for you; rather, I fear for you the craving for abundance (the plenty of wealth and boasting about it). And I do not fear for you (unintentional) error; rather, I fear for you deliberate sinning."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan in corroborating chains and supporting reports on account of Muhammad bin Sinan al-Qazzaz, and he has been corroborated; the rest of its narrators are trustworthy. وأخرجه أحمد 13/ (8074) عن محمد بن بكر البرساني، بهذا الإسناد. Reference / Source: Ahmad (13/8074) recorded it from Muhammad bin Bakr al-Bursani, with this chain. وأخرجه أحمد 16/ (10958) عن كثير بن هشام، وابن حبان (3222) من طريق خالد بن حيان، كلاهما عن جعفر بن برقان، به. Reference / Source: Ahmad (16/10958) recorded it from Kathir bin Hisham, and Ibn Hibban (3222) via Khalid bin Hayyan, both from Ja'far bin Burqan, with the same chain. التكاثر، قال السندي في حاشيته على "المسند": أي: في الأموال والتفاخر بها. Note / Clarification: Al-Sindi, in his marginal notes on "al-Musnad", explained "al-takathur": that is, (vying with one another) in wealth and boasting about it.
