أخبرنا محمد بن أحمد المحبُوبي بمَرُو، حدَّثنا سعيدٌ بن مسعود، حدَّثنا عُبيد الله بن موسى، حدَّثنا إسرائيل، أخبرني عبد الكريم الجَزَري، عن مجاهدٍ، عن ابن عبَّاس في قوله: ﴿وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا﴾ قال: هي الخيلُ ﴿فَالْمُورِيَاتِ قَدْحًا﴾ قال: الرجلُ إِذا أَوْرَى زَنْدَه ﴿فَالْمُغِيرَاتِ صُبْحًا﴾ قال: الخيلُ تصبِّحُ العدوَّ ﴿فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِ نَقْعًا﴾ قال: الترابُ ﴿فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِ جَمْعًا﴾ قال: العدوُّ ﴿إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ﴾ قال: الكَفُورُ (1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the words of Allah Almighty: "By the chargers that pant", that he said: "This refers to horses." And concerning "And the strikers of sparks", he said: "(This refers to) a man when he strikes fire from a flint." And concerning "And the raiders at dawn", he said: "The horses that attack the enemy in the morning." And concerning "Stirring up thereby clouds of dust", he said: "The dust and earth (that they raise)." And concerning "Penetrating thereby into the midst of a host", he said: "The enemy (they plunge into the midst of the enemy's host)." And concerning "Indeed, man is ungrateful to his Lord", he said: "(Kanud means) an extremely ungrateful person."
