حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الصَّغَاني، حدثنا أبو عاصم، حدثنا صالح بن رُستُم، عن ابن أبي مُلَيكة، عن عائشة قالت: جاءت عجوزٌ إلى النبي ﷺ وهو عندي، فقال لها رسول الله ﷺ: "من أنتِ؟ " قالت: أنا جَثّامةُ المُزَنيَّة، فقال: "بل أنتِ حَسّانةُ المُزَنية، كيف أنتم؟ كيف حالُكم؟ كيف كنتم بعدَنا؟ " قالت: بخير بأبي أنت وأمي يا رسول الله، فلما خَرَجَت قلتُ: يا رسول الله، تُقبِلُ على هذه العجوز هذا الإقبالَ! فقال: "إنها كانت تأتينا زمنَ خديجةَ، وإِنَّ حُسْنَ العهدِ من الإيمان" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، فقد اتفقا على الاحتجاج برُواتِه في أحاديثَ كثيرة، وليس له عِلّة.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that an elderly woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was with me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "Who are you?" She said: I am Jaththamah al-Muzaniyyah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather you are Hassanah al-Muzaniyyah. How are you all? How is your condition? How have you fared after us?" She said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, we are well. When she had left, I said: O Messenger of Allah, you gave this old woman such a warm welcome! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She used to come to us in the time of Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), and indeed, honouring an old bond well is part of faith."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs; both of them agreed on using its narrators as evidence in many hadiths, and there is no hidden defect ('illah) in it.

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل صالح بن رستم: وهو أبو عامر الخزاز. أبو عاصم: هو الضحاك بن مخلد النبيل، وابن أبي مليكة: اسمه عبد الله بن عبيد الله.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "hasan" on account of Salih bin Rustam (Abu 'Amir al-Khazzaz). Abu 'Asim: al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil; Ibn Abi Mulaykah: Abd Allah bin 'Ubayd Allah.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "الآداب" (182) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Adab" (182) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن الأعرابي في "معجمه" (774) - ومن طريقه القضاعي في "مسند الشهاب" (971) - والبيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (8701)، وابن عبد البر في ترجمة حسّانة من "الاستيعاب" (3277) من طريق محمد بن يونس الكُدَيمي، عن أبي عاصم، به. والكُديمي ضعيف لكنه متابع.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn al-A'rabi in his "Mu'jam" (774) — and by his route al-Quda'i in "Musnad al-Shihab" (971) — al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (8701), and Ibn Abd al-Barr in the biography of Hassanah in "al-Isti'ab" (3277), by way of Muhammad bin Yunus al-Kudaymi, from Abu 'Asim.
Grading: Al-Kudaymi is "da'if" (weak), but he has been corroborated.
وأخرجه مختصرًا عبد الغني الأزدي في "الغوامض والمبهمات" (65)، والبيهقي (8702)، وقاضي المارستان في "مشيخته" (161) من طريق حفص بن غياث عن هشام بن عروة، عن أبيه، عن عائشة. وهذا إسناد صحيح.
Reference / Source: Abd al-Ghani al-Azdi in "al-Ghawamid wa al-Mubhamat" (65), al-Bayhaqi (8702), and Qadi al-Maristan in his "Mashyakhah" (161) narrated it in abridged form by way of Hafs bin Ghiyath, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, from 'A'ishah; and this chain is "sahih".
وأخرجه كذلك القضاعي (972)، والبيهقي (8700) من طريق عبد المؤمن بن يحيى بن أبي كثير، عن أبيه، عن أبي سلمة، عن عائشة - ولفظه فيهما: "كرم الوُدِّ من الإيمان". وعبد المؤمن هذا ذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات" 8/ 417، ومن فوقه ثقات مشهورون.
Reference / Source: Al-Quda'i (972) and al-Bayhaqi (8700) likewise narrated it by way of Abd al-Mu'min bin Yahya bin Abi Kathir, from his father, from Abu Salamah, from 'A'ishah; the wording in both is: "Generosity in affection is part of faith." Ibn Hibban mentioned this Abd al-Mu'min in "al-Thiqat" 8/ 417, and those above him are well-known trustworthy narrators.
وأخرج البخاري في "التاريخ الكبير" 1/ 319 تعليقًا من طريق إبراهيم بن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن ثوبان، عن محمد بن زيد التيمي، عن عائشة: قال النبي ﷺ: "حسنُ العهد من الإيمان". وإسناده ضعيف. ¤ ¤ العهد في هذا الحديث: الحِفَاظ ورعاية الحُرمةِ والحقِّ. قاله أبو عبيد في "غريب الحديث" 3/ 138.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari narrated it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (1/ 319) as "mu'allaq" (without a full chain), by way of Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Thawban, from Muhammad bin Zayd al-Taymi, from 'A'ishah: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Faithfulness to old ties (husn al-'ahd) is part of faith."
Grading: Its chain is "da'if" (weak).
Note / Clarification: "Al-'ahd" in this hadith means: guarding and observing (old) sanctity and rights. Abu 'Ubayd said this in "Gharib al-Hadith" 3/ 138.
