حدَّثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدَّثنا أحمد بن شَيْبان الرَّمْلي، حدَّثنا سفيان بن عُيَينة، عن الزُّهْري، عن عُرْوة، عن عائشة قالت: أولُ سورةٍ نزلت من القرآن ﴿اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ﴾ (2). فإذا ابن عُيينة لم يَسمعْه من الزهري:

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "The first surah of the Qur'an to be revealed was: 'Read in the name of your Lord who created' [Surah al-Alaq: 1]."
(Imam al-Hakim says that) Ibn Uyaynah did not hear it from al-Zuhri, so (another chain is presented):

(2) حديث صحيح، رجاله ثقات غير أحمد بن شيبان فصدوق، وبين سفيان بن عيينة والزهري فيه ابن إسحاق، وقد بيَّن سفيان فيما سلف عند المصنف برقم (2910) من حديث ابن أبي عمر العدني عنه: أنَّ ابن إسحاق حفظه لهم عن الزهري. وانظر ما بعده.
Grading: The hadith is sahih; its narrators are trustworthy except Ahmad bin Shayban, who is saduq. Between Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah and al-Zuhri in it is Ibn Ishaq, and Sufyan made clear, in what has passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (2910) in the hadith of Ibn Abi Umar al-'Adani from him, that Ibn Ishaq preserved it for them from al-Zuhri.
