It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "Whoever reads the Qur'an (and acts upon it) will not be returned to the most decrepit age (that state of old age) in which he knows nothing after having knowledge. And this is the meaning of the words of Allah Almighty: 'Then We returned him to the lowest of the low, except those who believed' [Surah al-Tin: 5-6], meaning: except those who read the Qur'an."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Ibn Abi Umar is Muhammad bin Yahya bin Abi Umar al-'Adani, and Sufyan is Ibn 'Uyaynah. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (2450) from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (10/486) and al-Tabari (30/246) recorded it via two routes from 'Asim al-Ahwal, from 'Ikrimah as his own saying, without mentioning Ibn Abbas in it. And this is more authentic.
