It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the deeds that make forgiveness obligatory is feeding a hungry Muslim."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if jiddan" (very weak); Talhah bin Amr (al-Hadrami) is "matruk al-hadith". Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (3094) from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yusuf bin Musa al-Qattan (in al-Tabarani's "Makarim al-Akhlaq" 157) contradicted Hamid and narrated it from Ishaq bin Sulayman al-Razi, from Fitr bin Khalifah, from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, likewise. Hamid and Yusuf are both thiqah, and so is Fitr. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Abi Talib (who is saduq, with no harm in him) contradicted both of them and narrated it from Abd al-Wahhab bin Ata', from Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as "mursal". It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi (3093). This indicates idtirab (inconsistency) in the "marfu'" narration. Technical note / Defect ('illah): All of them were contradicted by Ali bin Abdullah (Ibn al-Madini) (in al-Bayhaqi 3092) and al-Husayn bin al-Junayd (in Abu Nu'aym's "Hilyat al-Awliya'" 3/149): they narrated it from Sufyan bin Uyaynah, who said: I heard Ibn al-Munkadir say; and he mentioned it as "mawquf" on him. This is the most "sahih" of them. Note / Clarification: "Al-saghban": hungry.
