It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty "Owner of the stakes, who transgressed in the lands" [Surah al-Fajr: 10-11], that he said: Pharaoh drove in four stakes for his wife (Asiyah (peace be upon her)), then he placed a huge millstone on her back until she died.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Note / Clarification: This is how it is in (S) and ('A), while in (Z) and (B) it is "'azim" (without the final ta' marbutah). The correct form is "raha 'azimah" (a huge millstone), because "al-raha" (millstone) is not treated as masculine.
Grading: Its narrators are "thiqah", but there is disagreement over its chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the narration of Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Dabari from Abd al-Razzaq (in Ma'mar's "Jami'" 20445 and al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" 1521), and likewise in the narration of others from Abd al-Razzaq (in his Tafsir 2/371), it is narrated via Ma'mar from Thabit al-Bunani from Abu Rafi' as his own saying (mawquf), without mention of Ibn Mas'ud. Abu Rafi' is "Nufay' al-Sa'igh al-Madani", a mukhadram Tabi'i (one who lived in both the Jahiliyyah and Islam). 30/ 179. Reference / Source: Muhammad bin Thawr al-San'ani narrated it likewise from Ma'mar in al-Tabari's Tafsir (30/179). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah narrated it from Thabit, from Abu Rafi', from Abu Hurayrah: "Pharaoh drove four stakes into his wife's hands and feet, and whenever they moved away from her the angels would shade her. ﴾ [My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise], and her house in Paradise was revealed to her." It was narrated by Abu Ya'la (6431) and al-Wahidi in "al-Tafsir al-Wasit" (4/482). This is a third variation, and perhaps it is the most "sahih" of them, for Hammad bin Salamah is more reliable (athbat) than Ma'mar in narrating from Thabit; indeed, Ma'mar's narration from Thabit has been criticised. (3876). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from Salman al-Farisi, mawquf on him, which has already passed under number (3876).
