Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3953

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning the saying of Allah Almighty "Its seal is musk" [Surah al-Mutaffifin: 26]: (What is meant is) a blending of fragrance (in the drink of Paradise), not a seal that is set upon (a vessel) to close it.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: God willing, its chain is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Three narrators narrated from Zayd bin Mu'awiyah (al-Absi al-Kufi). Al-Bukhari mentioned him in "al-Tarikh" (3/406) and Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (3/572), but they did not report any criticism (jarh) or accreditation (ta'dil) of him; however, al-Ijli and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy. Abu Hudhayfah is "Musa bin Mas'ud al-Nahdi", and Sufyan is "al-Thawri".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi in "al-Ba'th wa al-Nushur" (324) from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain.

Reference / Source: Ayyub and al-Jarrah bin Malih narrated it, with al-Tabari, from Ash'ath bin Abi al-Sha'tha', and made it part of the tafsir of Alqamah bin Qays.
Reference / Source: Its meaning was narrated by Masruq from Ibn Mas'ud, as narrated by Ibn al-Mubarak in "al-Zuhd" (in the narration of al-Marwazi, 1494), Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/142), Ibrahim al-Harbi in "Gharib al-Hadith" (2/558), and al-Tabari (30/106). The chain up to him (Masruq) is "sahih".
Note / Clarification: "Al-khilt": that which is mixed with something else and blended with it.

Reference / Source: He is alluding to the hadith of Abu Salamah that Abu Hurayrah recited ﴿إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ﴾ [When the sky is split open] to them and prostrated in it, and when he finished he told them that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had prostrated in it. Both al-Bukhari (1074) and Muslim (578/107) agreed on narrating this hadith via Yahya bin Abi Kathir from Abu Salamah. As for the hadith of Malik from Abdullah bin Yazid from Abu Salamah, Muslim alone narrated it, not al-Bukhari.
