Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3946

أخبرنا أبو بكر الشافعي، حدَّثنا إسحاق بن الحسن، حدَّثنا أبو حُذيفة، حدَّثنا سفيان، عن سِمَاك بن حَرْب، عن النُّعمان بن بشير، عن عمر بن الخطّاب في قوله ﷿: ﴿وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ﴾ [التكوير: 7]، قال: هما الرجلان يعملان العمل يدخلان به الجنةَ والنار؛ الفاجرُ مع الفاجر، والصالحُ مع الصالح (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty "And when the souls are paired" [Surah al-Takwir: 7], that he said: What is meant is two men who do the same kind of deeds, and on that basis they will enter Paradise or Hell; that is, the wicked with the wicked and the righteous with the righteous (will be paired).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) إسناده حسن من أجل أبي حذيفة - وهو موسى بن مسعود النهدي - وسماك بن حرب.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of Abu Hudhayfah (Musa bin Mas'ud al-Nahdi) and Simak bin Harb.
إسحاق بن الحسن: هو الحَرْبي، وسفيان: هو الثوري.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq bin al-Hasan is "al-Harbi", and Sufyan is "al-Thawri".
وأخرجه بنحوه عبد الرزاق في "تفسيره" 2/ 350، وأبو داود في "الزهد" (62)، والطبري في "التفسير" 30/ 69 من طرق عن سفيان الثوري، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in similar form by Abd al-Razzaq in his Tafsir (2/350), Abu Dawud in "al-Zuhd" (62), and al-Tabari in his Tafsir (30/69) through various routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this chain.
وأخرج معناه أيضًا آدم بن أبي إياس في "تفسيره" 2/ 733، وأبو داود في "الزهد" (63)، والطبري 30/ 69 من طرق عن سماك بن حرب، به. وانظر ما سلف برقم (3651).
