Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3906

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the opening verses of Surah al-Muzzammil were revealed, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to stand (in tahajjud) for as long as they would stand in the blessed month of Ramadan, until the last part of the surah was revealed. He said: Between the revelation of the first and the last part of this surah there was a period of about a year.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this word is "nahwan" (in the accusative), while what we have established is from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (as in the Maymani edition), and it is the standard usage.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1305) narrated it by way of Waki', from Mis'ar, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by the hadith of 'A'ishah that has passed at number (3903).
