حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أحمد بن الفضل الصائغ بعَسْقلانَ، حدثنا آدم بن أبي إياس، حدثنا حَريز بن عثمان، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَيسَرة، عن جُبير بن نُفير، عن بُسْر بن جِحَاش القُرَشي قال: تلا رسولُ الله ﷺ هذه الآية: ﴿فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ (36) عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ (37) أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ (38) كَلَّا إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ (39)﴾ ثم بَزَقَ رَسولُ اللهِ ﷺ على كفِّه فقال: " [يقول الله] (1): يا ابنَ آدم أنَّى تُعجِزُني وقد خلقتُك من مثلِ هذه، حتى إذا سوَّيتُك وعَدَلتُك، مشيتَ بين بُردَينِ وللأرض منك وَئِيدٌ - يعني شَكْوى - فَجَمَعتَ ومَنَعتَ (2)، حتى إذا بَلَغَت التَّراقيَ قلتَ (3): أتصدَّقُ، وأَنَّى أَوَانُ الصَّدقةِ" (4).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. [71 - [تفسير سورة نوح]]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Busr bin Jihash al-Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: "So what is the matter with those who disbelieve, hastening toward you, from the right and from the left, in separate groups? Does every person among them aspire to enter a Garden of bliss? No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know" [Al-Ma'arij: 36-39]. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spat on his palm and said: "Allah Almighty says: O son of Adam, how can you frustrate Me when I created you from something like this (a drop of fluid)? Then, when I had fashioned you completely and proportioned you, you began to walk upon the earth (swaggering) in two cloaks in such a way that the earth groaned under the tread of your feet. Then you gathered wealth and withheld it (from those entitled to it), until, when the soul reached the throat, you began to say: Now I will give charity. But where is the time for giving charity now?"
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) ما بين المعقوفين ليس في نسخنا الخطية، وأثبتناه من المطبوع و "شعب الإيمان" للبيهقي (3198) حيث رواه عن المصنف بإسناده ومتنه.
Note / Clarification: The text between the brackets is not in our manuscripts; we have established it from the printed edition and from al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" (3198), where he narrated it from the author (al-Hakim) with his chain and text.
(2) في (ص) و (ع): فجمعت وسعيت.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and ('A) it is "fa-jama'tu wa-sa'aytu".
(3) في (ز) و (ص) و (ع): وقلت، بالواو، وإسقاطها أوجهُ.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z), (S) and ('A) it is "wa-qultu" with the waw, and dropping it is better.
(4) إسناده حسن من أجل عبد الرحمن بن ميسرة: وهو الحضرمي الشامي.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Maysarah (al-Hadrami al-Shami).
وأخرجه أحمد 29/ (17842 - 17845)، وابن ماجه (2707) من طرق عن حريز بن عثمان، بهذا الإسناد. ولم يذكروا فيه تلاوة الآية.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (29/17842-17845) and Ibn Majah (2707) narrated it by various routes from Hariz bin 'Uthman with this same chain. They did not mention the recitation of the verse in it.
