It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And eight will bear the Throne of your Lord above them that Day" [Al-Haqqah: 17], that he said: "(This refers to) eight angels in the form of mountain goats (aw'al); the distance from their hooves to their knees is equal to a journey of sixty-three years."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Although Shu'ayb bin Khalid, al-Walid bin Abi Thawr and Amr bin Thabit have also narrated it from Simak bin Harb as marfu' (attributing it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)), the two Shaykhs did not use any of them as evidence. I have mentioned the hadith of Shu'ayb bin Khalid because he is the closest of them to being used as evidence.

Note / Clarification: In manuscript (B) this is distorted into "al-Husayn". This Abu al-Hasan Muhammad bin 'Ali al-Maydani is in fact "Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin 'Ali bin Bakr Abu al-Hasan al-Naysaburi". "Al-Maydani" is an ascription to "Maydan Ziyad", a quarter of Naysabur. The author (al-Hakim) has narrated several hadiths in this book by his route from al-Husayn bin al-Fadl al-Bajali.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if". Reference / Source: It has already passed at number (3470) by way of Abu Nasr Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Nasr from Abu Ghassan; see also the (hadith) after it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): So he said, even though the chain of the hadith of Shu'ayb bin Khalid contains his nephew "Yahya bin al-'Ala'", about whom al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "Yahya is wahin (extremely weak); rather, the hadith of al-Walid is better". Reference / Source: We say: the hadith of al-Walid bin Abi Thawr is in Abu Dawud (4723), Ibn Majah (193), and in 'Abd Allah bin Ahmad's additions to the "Musnad" (3/1771). The hadith of 'Amr bin Thabit is in al-Ruyani's "Musnad" (1330) and in Abu Nu'aym's "Tarikh Asbahan" (2/2), and it is abridged to the story of the "aw'al" (mountain goats). Grading: Al-Walid and 'Amr are both "da'if".
