It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: I asked My servant for a loan, but he refused to lend to Me; and in his ignorance he says: 'Alas for time! Alas for time!' whereas I am time (its Creator and Master)." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "If you lend Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you." [Al-Taghabun: 17]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: In manuscript (Z) alone this has been corrupted into "Salamah"; Muhammad bin Maslamah here is "al-Wasiti".
Note / Clarification: The printed edition has the words "And My servant reviled Me while he does not know", whereas the words "sabbani 'abdi" (My servant reviled Me) are not present here in any of our manuscripts. This hadith has already passed at number (1540) via al-Hasan bin Mukram, who narrates it from Yazid bin Harun, and this addition is present there.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (Z) has "wa-ma", which is a "tahrif".
Grading: This hadith is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although there is criticism of Muhammad bin Maslamah, he has been corroborated in the earlier hadith number (1540). And Muhammad bin Ishaq is "hasan al-hadith", and he narrated with 'an'anah (which raises the suspicion of tadlis), but he too has been corroborated, as has passed.
