حدثنا الحسن بن يعقوب وإبراهيم بن عِصْمة قالا: حدثنا السَّرِيّ بن خُزيمة، حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ، حدثنا حَيْوة بن شُريح، أخبرني ابن أبي كَريمة قال: سمعت عِكرمةَ يقول: سمعت ابنَ عباس يقول: ﴿يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ﴾ [المجادلة: 11]، قال: يرفعُ الله الذين أُوتُوا العلمَ من المؤمنين على الذين لم يُؤتَوُا العلم درجاتٍ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge by degrees" [Surah al-Mujadilah: 11], that he said: "Allah Almighty raises the people of knowledge among the believers by many degrees above those who were not given knowledge."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل ابن أبي كريمة: واسمه السَّكن، من أهل مصر، روى عنه حيوة بن شريح وغير واحد، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات".
Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason it is hasan is the narrator "Ibn Abi Karimah", whose name is "al-Sakan"; he is from the people of Egypt. Haywah bin Shurayh and several other narrators narrated from him, and Imam Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat".
وأخرجه البيهقي في "المدخل إلى السنن" (341) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Madkhal ila al-Sunan" (341) by way of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
وأخرجه الدارمي (365) عن عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ، به.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Darimi narrated it (365) by way of 'Abd Allah bin Yazid al-Muqri'.
