It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Jamilah was the wife of Aws bin al-Samit, and Aws was a man who suffered from some mental disturbance (fits). When this condition became severe, he would pronounce zihar on his wife. So Allah Almighty revealed concerning him the expiation for zihar.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" 7/ 382 by way of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it in his "Sunan" (2220) by way of Harun bin 'Abd Allah from Muhammad bin al-Fadl. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud also narrated (2219) by way of Musa bin Isma'il al-Tabudhaki, from Hammad bin Salamah, from Hisham bin 'Urwah, that "Jamilah..." Grading: This narration is "mursal", because in it he mentions neither his father ('Urwah) nor 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). (14968). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The following narrators corroborated Muhammad bin al-Fadl in narrating it as "connected" (i.e. with a muttasil chain): Asad bin Musa in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 38/ 6, 'Abd al-A'la bin Hammad in Ibn al-Mundhir's "al-Awsat" (7732), and Sulayman bin Harb in al-Bayhaqi's "Ma'rifat al-Sunan wa al-Athar" (14968). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Aban al-'Attar narrated it in al-Tabari 28/ 6 from Hisham bin 'Urwah from his father 'Urwah as "mursal", without mentioning 'A'ishah. Important point: It appears that Hisham bin 'Urwah would sometimes narrate it as connected (mawsul) and at other times as mursal.
