أخبرنا أبو زكريا العنبري، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عبد السلام، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق، أخبرنا يحيى بن اليَمَان، حَدَّثَنَا المِنهال بن خَليفة، عن حجَّاج، عن عطاء، عن ابن عبَّاس: ﴿وَالنَّجْمُ وَالشَّجَرُ﴾ [الرحمن: 6]، قال: النَّجمُ: ما أَنجَمَت الأرضُ، والشجرُ: ما كان على ساقٍ (3). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And the stars (or the creeping plants that grow from the earth) and the trees" [Surah al-Rahman: 6], that he said: "'Al-najm' refers to the plants that grow out of the earth (but have no trunk), and 'al-shajar' refers to the trees that stand on a trunk."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(3) خبر حسن، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف المنهال بن خليفة، وعنعنة حجاج - وهو ابن أرطاة - فإنه مدلِّس. إسحاق: هو ابن راهويه، وعطاء: هو ابن أبي رباح.
Grading: This report is "hasan", but this chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is the weakness of al-Minhal bin Khalifah and the 'an'anah of Hajjaj (Ibn Artah), for he is a mudallis. Ishaq is Ibn Rahawayh and 'Ata' is Ibn Abi Rabah.
وأخرجه أبو الشيخ في "العظمة" (1206) من طريق أبي هشام الرفاعي، عن يحيى بن يمان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu al-Shaykh narrated it in "al-'Azamah" (1206) by way of Abu Hisham al-Rifa'i from Yahya bin Yaman with this same chain.
وأخرجه أبو الشيخ أيضًا في "طبقات المحدثين بأصبهان" 1/ 427 من طريق خطّاب بن جعفر، عن أبيه، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عبَّاس. وإسناده حسن.
Reference / Source: Abu al-Shaykh also narrated it in "Tabaqat al-Muhaddithin bi-Asbahan" (1/ 427) by way of Khattab bin Ja'far, from his father, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
وأخرجه الطبري 27/ 116 و 117 من طريق معاوية بن صالح، عن علي بن أبي طلحة، عن ابن عبَّاس. وعلي بن أبي طالب لم يسمع من ابن عبَّاس.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari (27/ 116, 117) narrated it by way of Mu'awiyah bin Salih, from 'Ali bin Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas.
