Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 378

It is narrated from Hisham bin Hujayr that Tawus used to pray two rak'ahs after Asr. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: "Leave them." He said: "They were forbidden only lest they be made a means of reaching the sunset." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (any) prayer after Asr, and I do not know whether you will be punished or rewarded for it, because Allah Almighty says: 'It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have any choice in their affair.' [Surah al-Ahzab: 36]"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, and it is in agreement with the encouragement to follow the Sunnah, but they did not record it with this wording.
