Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3776

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit the sick, attend funerals, accept the invitation of a slave, and ride a donkey. Even on the day of the Battle of Khaybar and the day of the Battle of Banu Qurayzah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding a donkey whose rein was a rope of palm fibre (lif), and beneath him was a saddle (pack-saddle) also made of palm fibre.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (hasan due to supporting evidence), but this chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Muslim al-A'war (Muslim bin Kaysan al-Mula'i).
Note / Clarification: Jarir is Ibn Abd al-Hamid.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (2296, 4178) recorded it from Amr bin Rafi', from Jarir, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (2296) recorded it in abridged form via Sufyan bin Uyaynah and al-Tirmidhi (1017) via Ali bin Muslim, both from Muslim al-A'war. Sufyan confined himself to his accepting the invitation of a slave. Via Sufyan it will come at (7306), longer than in Ibn Majah.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "al-Hilyah" (5/ 22) via Muhammad bin Talhah, from his father, from Anas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a donkey on the day of Hunayn whose halter was made of palm fibre. He called it "gharib".
Reference / Source: Al-Baghawi recorded it in "Sharh al-Sunnah" (3674) via Rawwad bin al-Jarrah, from al-Hasan bin Umarah, from Thabit, from Anas.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of al-Hasan bin Umarah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Uthman bin Affan (Ahmad: 1/ 504), whose chain is "hasan", supports the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) visiting the sick and following funerals.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the hadith of Sahl bin Hunayf which comes next in the author's (al-Hakim's) book.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Ibn Abbas (al-Tabarani: 12494) supports his accepting the invitation of a slave; its chain is da'if, but al-Haythami (9/ 20) called it "hasan".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: There is also the hadith of Jabir bin Abd Allah (al-Bazzar: 2463); its chain is da'if, but al-Haythami also called it "hasan". Concerning riding a donkey, there is the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) (Ahmad: 2/ 886) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to ride a donkey named Ufayr; there is weakness in its chain.
