أخبرنا أبو زكريا العَنبَري، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عبد السلام، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق، أخبرنا بقيَّة بن الوليد، حدثني مُبشِّر بن عُبيد، عن الحجَّاج بن أَرْطَاةَ، عن عِكْرمة قال: قلت لابن عبَّاس: ما قولُه: ﴿وَتُعَزِّرُوهُ﴾ [الفتح: 19]؟ قال: الضَّربُ بين يَدَيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بالسَّيف (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) what is meant by this saying of Allah Almighty, "and honour him (wa tu'azziruhu)" [Surah al-Fath: 9]. He replied: "It means striking with the sword (against the enemies) before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده تالف، مبشر بن عبيد متَّهم بالوضع، وبه أعلَّه الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، لكن الخبر محفوظ عن عكرمة من قوله.
Grading: This chain is "talif" (ruined); Mubashshir bin Ubayd is accused of fabrication, and al-Dhahabi cited this same defect in al-Talkhis. However, the report is mahfuz as a statement of Ikrimah.
فقد أخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 26/ 75، والخطيب البغدادي في "تاريخه" 16/ 206 - 207 من طرق عن أبي مبشر جعفر بن أبي وحشية، عن عكرمة. لم يذكر فيه ابن عبَّاس.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in his "Tafsir" (26/ 75) and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in his "Tarikh" (16/ 206-207) via Abu Mubashshir Ja'far bin Abi Wahshiyyah, from Ikrimah, but Ibn Abbas is not mentioned in it.
وروي من طريق فيه من لا يُعرف عن شعبة، عن أبي بشر، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عبَّاس.
Grading: It is also narrated through a route containing an unknown narrator, from Shu'bah, from Abu Bishr, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas.
أخرجه الضياء المقدسي في "المختارة" 10/ (88).
Reference / Source: Al-Diya' al-Maqdisi recorded it in "al-Mukhtarah" (10/ 88).
